For your Midterm Paper please respond to following:
To date, we’ve been talking a lot about several management principles in general. We’ve, content wise, talked/read through personality types (cp. the Big Five Personality Types), strategy, P-O-L-C (the Four Basic Management Functions), mission & vision statements, goals & objectives, and MBOs up to this point. That said; please find an example of a company whose practices were shoddy/dysfunctional (e.g. encouraged high turnover/poor retention, infighting, scandal, lost revenue, etc.) in some way and then decided to turn it around (for whatever reason) for/toward the better. In short, and while drawing on your readings and other scholarly sources, please summarize what went wrong and what lengths the company/organization went to fix their said wrongs.
Questions worth considering as you write:
· What was the company/org. and what industry? It’s history in short?
· What was the problem?
· How did its leadership fix the problem?
· What could they have done differently? If at all?
· Any room for improvement?
· How might the example inform today’s management?
Too, please proof read as you write and make sure you reference outside sources. On a paper like this I expect to see at least 3-5 solid references. If you are a tad rusty at writing these kinds of papers here is a very helpful link that I have given my students over the years: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/658/1/
The paper needs to have a Cover Page, 6-8 full pages (double-spaced) of written text (INTRO>BODY>CONCLUSION), and a Bibliography Page. In sum, and with the additional Cover and Bibliography pages, y’all should be handing in anywhere from 8-10 pages really.
Further, please note that I grade rather heavily on these and that you will want to give it your all. Because I don’t inundate my students with busy work during the term (although you might feel otherwise) I tend to treat the Midterm and Final as the core of your graded work in this course.
Should you have any questions please don’t hesitate. I am more than happy to help where help is needed.
Kindest, Jeremy
