Browsing versus Searching

The choice between browsing and searching is a matter of preference and usually depends on the user and on the information sought. Amazon and Rakuten offer a similar array of products, but their UX approaches vary. In this activity, you will put yourself in the user’s chair and compare two experiences.
Pick at least one product from each category in the “Products to Find” table (in the Module Five Short Paper Guidelines and Rubric document). Then visit Amazon and Rakuten and locate the products by browsing and by searching. Write a short paper about your experience. Address the following critical elements:
Identify the products you chose.
Describe your experience with each website and each type of activity (searching or browsing).
Describe your satisfaction with each website, justifying your answer.
Give your opinion on the relationship between the scope of the search and the most fitting activity (searching or browsing).
Provide a comparison table that places Amazon in one column and Rakuten in the other. In the rows of the table, include the top search and category page tips and common mistakes described in Chapters 21 and 22 of the course textbook. Mark which site implemented each of them.
Recommend an improvement for one of the sites.
To complete this assignment, review the Module Five Short Paper Guidelines and Rubric document.
