Grades
A 80–100%, B 66–79%, C 50–65% (pass, provided all learning outcomes are achieved), NA 49% or below. All learning outcomes in the assessment must be achieved; where one is not met, part of the assessment must be resubmitted.
Part A – Written Document
Complete the assessment using examples and experiences from your own business workplace. If you do not have a business workplace or cannot apply the requirements to it, you may use a business you are familiar with.
Task 1: Applying Contemporary Business Communication Strategies (LO1, 20 marks)
Option A: outline two current operational objectives within your chosen business, your role in each objective and any other relevant information.
Option B: you are a team leader in a medium-sized business launching a new product line. Senior management want the new line to increase overall sales by 15% within 12 months and want every sale to receive an 85%+ customer satisfaction rating. Your role is to make sure your team understands the objectives, stays motivated and works together effectively.
- Analyse two different contemporary communication strategies and their suitability for achieving each objective: an examination of each strategy and at least three pros and cons for each, supported by at least two credible sources. (12 marks)
- Using at least two examples per strategy, explain how each strategy may be applied in the business to achieve the operational objectives. (8 marks)
Task 2: Developing an Implementation Plan (LO1, 16 marks)
Develop an implementation plan for one of the two strategies from Task 1, showing how it will be put into practice in your chosen workplace. The plan must include:
- Two clearly defined goals
- At least four steps with timelines and roles (who is responsible for each step)
- At least two resources required to achieve the objectives
- How you would review and evaluate the effectiveness of the communication strategy
Task 3: Creating and Implementing Strategies to Support Relationships with Stakeholders (LO2, 20 marks)
Sustainable operational relationships build trust, collaboration and long-term success. Common barriers include inconsistent communication, unclear roles, short-term thinking, lack of stakeholder engagement, and cultural or language gaps. Choose Option A (a New Zealand business you work in) or Option B (a New Zealand business you have worked in or observed) that has well-developed strategies for sustainable stakeholder relationships.
- Analyse two different relationship-building strategies used by the business with at least two different stakeholders: outline each strategy, identify the stakeholders it applies to, and justify why it works well, using at least two credible sources. (12 marks)
- Using at least two examples per strategy, explain how each strategy may be applied to support sustainable relationships with the stakeholders identified. (8 marks)
APA 7th edition references from credible sources (3 marks) and professional formatting and business English (3 marks) are also assessed.
Part B – Presentation
Task 4: Stakeholder Relationship Strategies Presentation (LO2, 16 marks)
Create and deliver a slide presentation to your team introducing and explaining the stakeholder relationship strategies from Task 3.
- Content (4 marks): a brief overview of both strategies, why they were chosen for the business, and a concise summary of how each is applied in practice.
- Slide design and structure (6 marks): a maximum of 10 slides, clear and well organised, no more than 30 words per slide, with appropriate images or graphics, white space and consistent fonts and layout.
- Delivery (6 marks): a video of you presenting for 5 to 10 minutes, engaging and confident, with professional business language, clear articulation, eye contact and gestures.
