MGMT1601 Microsoft Word Research Report Assignment Instructions

For this assignment, students will demonstrate their ability to utilize Dalhousie University Library resources to conduct research, their aptitude with Microsoft Word’s document design functions, and their ability to document references in a properly formatted APA reference list.

Assignment Overview

Students must complete the following tasks:

1. Select a topic.
2. Use the Dalhousie Libraries website to find at least three appropriate academic sources for this topic.
3. Prepare a professionally formatted 750-word report on the topic, using APA-style referencing to give credit to sources.
4. Submit the report to the MGMT1601 Brightspace as a PDF.

Topic Selection

Topic selection is simple: students can choose any topic of relevance to the contemporary field of management, so long as they are able to find relevant research articles on the topic.

Research Methods and Source Referencing

Basic academic research methods and the use of Microsoft Word to document sources in APA-style will both be covered in class.

Report Format

The report must contain the following features:

1. Title page, including your name, B00#, date, and the title of your paper
2. Running Header
3. Table of Contents
4. List of Figures and/or List of Tables
   1. By extension, the report must contain at least one figure or table.
5. Proper Page Numbering (Roman numerals in front matter, Arabic numerals for body, no page number on title page)
6. Introduction
7. Body Sections (and, if necessary, sub-sections) delineated by appropriate headings.
   1. Body of report must contain at least one image, properly placed and captioned.
   1. Body of report must contain at least one block quotation, properly formatted.
   1. Body of report should be 1.5x- or double-spaced.

Submission Instructions

Assignments must be saved as PDFs and uploaded to the Brightspace site, following the filename convention Surname_GivenName_MGMT1601_MSWord.pdf.

Improper submission format will result in a 5% penalty.

The assignment is due no later than 11:59pm on Monday, January 21.

Research Report Evaluation

Research reports will be evaluated on the quality of their content and formatting. The following table shows a detailed breakdown of the evaluation.

The report is worth 15% of the final MGMT1601 grade.
