A summary of text is an objective and short account of the main points of something you read. It should be written in your own words to shorten the text and present what you have decided is necessary. When writing a summary, you should include all the main points you deem important and views of the author you would like to portray. In order to make sure you have all this information you want to make sure you give the material a good thorough read. Take notes about the topics you would like to go over in detail and use your notes to organize these topics in the best order. A good summary will answer the questions who, what, where, when, why and how. These are the answers an audience would like to find easily in a summary. Another important piece of information that should be included in a summary is source citations to give credit to the author. All the information in a summary should be presented in a neutral voice. A summary should be objective to display all the information and allow the audience to form their own opinions of the piece.
