HW6: Brainstorming Grid. For this homework assignment, you will be creating a visual pre-writing tool to help you identify and organize points of connection. This will help you put together a thesis in the next assignment.
Here’s what you need to do:
Step 1: Review the Completed Brainstorming Grid on criminal behaviorPreview the documentView in a new window. For this assignment, students had to read two articles that talked about criminal behavior. Both articles discussed the 1971 Stanford Prison Experiment (SPE).*
*Note: You do not have to have read the criminal behavior articles, nor do you have to know anything about the SPE to review the grid. The grid on these two articles is simply a sample of what to do for this assignment.
Step 2: Download and complete the blank template for the brainstorming grid.

To complete the grid:
First, decide on a list of points that are addressed in both essays–Why Legalizing Organ Sales Would Help to Save Lives, End Violence and Kidneys for Sale: A Reconsideration. NOTE: These are the articles you briefly summarized in HW5.
Next, list the sources’ names on the left side and the common points across the top.
Then, review your reading notes and the essays themselves. Fill in the boxes by writing down what each source says about each point (stick to the most important ideas for now–do not get bogged down in examples and minor details yet).
Review your grid and decide your focus—similarities, differences, both? Or, in other words, do the sources agree, disagree, both or something else (e.g., agree, but one expands, agree but one ignores, contradicts, etc.)? Also, choose your best points.
Step 3: Review the thesis workshopPreview the documentView in a new window AND the thesis examples and sample outlinesPreview the documentView in a new window. The examples are based on the grid on criminal behavior so that you can see how the grid can be used to formulate a thesis.
Now, write a thesis statement based on the bioethics essays and your work in the grid … include your thesis statement at the bottom of the grid.
Step 4: Name the file: Last.First.hw6 and submit as instructed on the assignment page.
