You are the VP of Operations in a firm that has enjoyed good success. However, in the past several months there has been a financial (and accompanying employee morale) downturn. The president of your company comes to you and says, “You are upbeat most of the time, I bet you would know how to cheer things up around here. I have allocated $5,000 over the next six months for you to use for any combination of incentives, etc. to help you create a more positive employee morale. Give me a three to four page proposal by the end of this week on how you might plan to improve things.”
(Note: This company already has a good basic benefits package for employees consisting of health, life and pension benefits/options. The company employees are fairly diverse, well-educated and from middle class backgrounds).
Consider what you have learned in our readings the past few weeks for you as a manager, from not misreading a situation(s) to understanding organizational structure and symbols to how these (and other factors) translate into effective motivators for your employees.
