Assessment Instructions

An important skill that a Tourism and Hospitality manager must possess is the ability to analyse an  organisation in terms of how well it is meeting its obligations to its employees and stakeholders. Please read the ‘Abu Dhabi’ case study that is available under ‘assessments’ tab in MyKBS. Based on the case study information, you are to write a critical analysis that investigates the central organisation in terms of its:

• Leadership style – what is the current leadership of the organisation and what would you do differently if you were the CEO?

• Stakeholder analysis – who are the key stakeholders and are they suitable for the modern-day tourism and hospitality industry?

• Recruitment and training of staff – what are your views on the current forms of recruitment and training and what would you like to improve upon in these areas?

• Motivation and engagement of staff – based on your analysis how would  you motivate and engage staff?

• Training of staff – what alternatives would you use for the training of staff in this organisation?

From your analysis of these elements, you will attempt to identify areas where improvements may be sought. You will justify your arguments for why these improvements should be introduced and present  them in the  form of detailed recommendations to the Chief Executive and the Board.

You will undertake any other additional research that is required to get a better understanding of the organisation presented in the case study and its activities and any research that is needed for  you  to formulate your recommendations.

This research will form the basis of the Reference List of your critical analysis. The primary sources for research should be relevant published academic journals and texts, but other sources of information such as newspapers, magazines and reports may also be of value. You are required to use at least 10 sources of information and reference these in accordance with Kaplan Harvard Referencing Style.

As stated earlier, the format for this assessment is a critical case study. If you have not undertaken a task like this before, your research would also include how to structure and present information in a report format. An Executive Summary is considered to be a key component of a formal report and is included in the word count for this assessment.

The findings presented in this critical analysis must be based on scholarly, peer-reviewed and commercial sources of information that were published no longer than 5 years ago. In composing the analysis, you must incorporate theories and concepts related to the tourism and hospitality ideas and theory discussed in the topics from weeks 1 to 5
