Each student in this course is required to write a short memorandum (1) identifying any ethical considerations in a specific governmental, electoral, legislative or advocacy crisis or crisis management situation; (2) explaining why this was indeed an ethical issue from the perspective of a specific participant; (3) detailing its potential ramifications; and (4) outlining a course of action that would appropriately resolve this issue.

For this assignment, students may revisit the crisis that was the subject of their previous crisis identification memo or select another crisis. Students will then need to write a three to four page memorandum that:

1. Describes an ethical consideration or issue within the crisis itself or in terms of the management of it – or the potential management of it — by one of its major participants.

2. Explains why this should be seen as an ethical issue and what its potential consequences might have been

3. Outlines the approach the participant should have taken to address this ethical issue appropriately

4. Details what impact following that approach  had — or would have had — on the crisis’ resolution, impact, management or outcome
