In this assignment, you will provide a discussion of resiliency models, as well as the individual, family, and community variables that moderate the negative impact of stressful/traumatic events.
Instructions:
Identify a personal interest story from the media in which the individual(s) demonstrated resiliency in the face of adversity.
Provide a summary of the article and describe in what ways the individual(s) prevailed. Include individual, family, and community factors described.
Highlight and discuss individual, family and/or community factors that were protective and served to moderate the negative impact of the event for that individual as per the discussion of the theoretical models found in the empirical literature and the material discussed in the course room.
Discuss how you as a counselor can identify these factors and utilize these in conjunction with treatment to facilitate and/or prevent long-term negative effects of distressing events.
Finally, review both the ACA and APA websites for information on both culturally sensitive responses and resiliency and include a summary of the culturally sensitive responses in the paper appropriate for the individual(s) presented.
