For your analysis paper, you will be placing two of our texts in conversation with one another. One of those texts must be the “Allegory of the Cave” by Plato. The other can be either “Learning to Read and Write” by Frederick Douglass or “The Era of Fake Video Begins” by Franklin Foer.
In your paper, discuss how your chosen text supports and/or disagrees with the ideas has in Plato’s allegory. Did Plato predict what the author described in your chosen text, or is something else going on?
Your argument must be driven by a thesis. You must provide evidence from both texts to support your argument. Make sure your argument has a point (after you make an argument, ask yourself “so what is the point of this?”). If your argument doesn’t have a clear point, go back and make it more clear.
This is NOT a compare/contrast paper. Do not just list the differences and similarities between the two texts. Instead, discuss how one text can help deepen our understanding of another. Create insights for your readers that they would not gain from a basic understanding of the two texts.
