THE BRIEF
Please write a proposal portfolio 3000 words (+/- 10%) in which you outline and
present an idea for an advertisement for broadcast and cinema release, discussing
in detail – the specified target audience, an overview of your intended design
including the proposed use of colour that would appeal to the target audience and a
workflow design from ingest to delivery.
Deliver a document that breaks down into the following sections (note that the word
counts are indicative, this is just to give you an idea of how to structure it):
1) A short “headline” paragraph identifying your idea – an extended “log line” no
more than 50 words.
2) A proposal that pitches your idea and the intended target audience. (300 – 500
words)
3) A discussion of sources used to inform your proposed advertisement
(advertisements, art, photographs, films etc) (300 – 500 words)
4) A discussion of how are going to plan out and design your visual elements
including the use of colour, effects and how this would be achieved technically using
grading tools such as Davinci Resolve. (700 – 1000 words)
5) A breakdown of the workflow you will employ from ingest through to delivery
including an explanation of the attributes of cinema and HD broadcast delivery based

THE AIM
• To demonstrate that you understand the end to end process of an
offline/online model in postproduction.
• To demonstrate an understanding of high-end postproduction tools for
grading and finishing.
• To demonstrate an understanding of HD broadcast and digital cinema
delivery.
TASKS and GUIDANCE
1. Research the type of advertisement you wish to make. This could be based
on the Lotus advertisement in the previous assessment.
2. From this research write your log line, proposal and discussion of sources
used.
3. Explain your chosen aesthetic by describing the elements that would make up
your advertisement. How does it tie together as a theme? How would you use
professional grading tools to achieve this?
4. Plan your workflow – start with the delivery requirements and think about how
you would deliver your advert to a ‘legal’ standard.
You should include reference materials (e.g., stills from films, published interviews
with industry practitioners, quotes from specific articles or books, etc.) that provide
examples to support your discussion. It can be helpful to include images, diagrams
and/or screenshots to help make your points as clear as possible. Be sure to
properly attribute any elements that you did not create yourself. See the PGT
Handbook for details about proper referencing style
