We will be writing a report that is based on research that you will do. You pick the topic, and I caution you to keep it narrow. Then you should go to the Internet and get information about that topic. I have posted a PowerPoint presentation on Research that may help you as you search for information. You should have at least two sources. In general, this paper will be two to three pages long.
Once you have information, you will write about the topic. The goal is to inform/teach your reader about the topic. The paper should include statistics, facts, and (possibly) opinions that you found during your research. You are required to cite these in the report and give credit to the author or speaker. All the articles we have read this semester use in-text citations (these are quotes and things that start with According to…), so you are familiar with how they work even if you are not familiar with the word. At the end of the report, you should add a “Works Cited” page that lists your sources. I have sent you a PowerPoint addressing this page as well.
I understand that for many of you, this is new territory. The best way to learn this is by doing. Please do not panic. I will look over and comment on drafts, so do not worry about doing it wrong. We are trying to learn from the experience. For that reason, I would like you to send a draft by May 3. I will comment on the papers and get them back to you to revise. That way, you will get the best grade possible on this effort
