REFLEXIVE REPORT 3
Executive Summary
This report will reveal my characteristics of personal and professional nature which is developed over a period
and explain my leadership journey before and after interaction with people in my life. It will also explain my
current role or position in my workplace and the strengths / skill I used in my day to day life to get the work done.
It will also showcase the result of Gallup Strength finder tool and the feedback from my co-workers and team
leader from my organisation about my leadership skills. I will also correlate the relevant academic theories and
techniques to support my knowledge of leadership.
Introduction
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
(John Quincy Adams). The quality of leadership in a person helps him/her to achieve great result in his life. In
this report, I will start with my current role in my organization and my responsibilities towards them. This report
will include my journey so far as a leader, the outcome of Gallup strength finder toll about me, key feedbacks
from my teammates and superior such as my manager and implication of that in my style of work to achieve
satisfactory or desirable result.
Role, Responsibilities and Challenges
Since, when I stepped in the phase of working for earning living, I always worked in a team. The best thing to
work in a team is to grab the skills of leadership. It will develop naturally in many persons. When I come to
Australia about 1.5 years ago for my postgraduation, I started working as a casual employee in Journey Beyond,
Great Southern Rails as a store-person in train supplies. My team leader put me in various roles in a fast-paced
environment. The role is quite challenging, sometimes I must work in minus temperature (in freezer) and
sometimes in extreme hot environment in summer. At first, I struggled a lot and many times received negative
feedbacks. But, with negative feedback my team leader also motivates me and cheer me up. My responsibility
was to always provide services to our guests beyond expectations. Being working in Rail/Hospitality industry the
safety concern is one of the big factors. At that time, living away from home country for the first time, studying
full-time postgraduation course and working in a big organisation was a big challenge. The quote I remember at
that moment was “Hard work never brings fatigue. It brings Satisfaction.” (Narendra Modi).

REFLEXIVE REPORT 4
My Leadership Journey
As, I have an accounting background, I used to work as an accountant in my home country. Started working in a
warehouse as a store-person and doing labour work for the first time was a big challenge for me. Moreover,
receiving negative feedbacks about my work can be quite depressing. But, when going through that phase, I know
from inside, about my nature or my qualities. Even the Gallup strength finder tool outcome shows the same
qualities. I know that I have the skills of Responsibility, Learner, Maximizer, etc. I didn’t get demotivated as I
know by doing things continuously and learning technique of doing things will change my negative feedback to
positive feedback. “It’s important to learn and not repeat the same mistakes. What’s done is done.”
(Mahendra Singh Dhoni). That’s what happened after few weeks. I start getting positive feedbacks about my
work, day by day. In just six months of joining organization they offered me permanent position, which was quite
big achievement for me. By working in a team of 35 people and learning the leadership qualities by observing
the working style of my team leader, I started developing leadership qualities. At current stage, my organisation
started giving me responsibility of training new staff members and getting the feedback that I am perfect in my
work department. Now, my aim is to enter in Corporate industry and work as an professional accountant.
My Strengths
Strengths have been defined as “characteristics of a person that allow them to perform well or at their
personal best” (Wood et al., 2011, p. 15). As far as I know about myself, I have the strength of to learn things
quickly, take responsibilities of my acts and empathy towards any living being around myself. Learning
leadership as a subject was a new thing for me. This subject introduced to me Gallup strength finder tool. After
undertaking this strength finder tool, I come to know 2 new strengths in me which are Maximizer and
Adaptability. I found that, I have the strength to capitalize my knowledge to gain opportunity or to do work
effectively. I also found that, I have the ability to adapt with the changing environment quickly or go with the
flow. My leadership strength has been evolving through curiosity of experimenting new things, the guidance from
my parents, elder sisters and close friends. I found a great leader in my home, my mother, she worked as a teacher
in a private high school. She used to bring out hidden talents in her students and guided them in every situation.
She helped me in every scenario. She always treated me like her friend and equally. I shared everything with her,

and she always helps me to keep faith in me. My parent always respected my decision and keeps me motivated.
Apart from the strengths discovered from Gallup strength tool, some other strength I have according to my peer
Manisha in this subject are that I am a good listener, humble, futuristic. She encouraged me to start taking
initiative and don’t hold back. She taught me to start welcoming opportunities and keep celebrating little success.
According to her celebrating little success is quite important in life, because it will give self-motivation to succeed
in every phase of life.
Feedback on my Skills
My parents, colleagues, peer and my friends had given me number of honest feedbacks about my leadership
qualities and strengths. I believe that these people know me very well as we spend most of the time together.
According to me a true character of a person can be judged through their friends. Their feedbacks help me to
understand myself and keep me motivated to improve further. In my organisation where I work my team-leader
Wayne Robinson taught me how to be pro-active at work. He taught me how to relate someone by doing small
talks. I quite influenced with his style of working by observing his way of communicating with others, meet
others and feel them motivated all day by cheering them. I think The Johari Window model (1955) is the best
technique to identify and improve my leadership qualities and skills. Following is the brief description:

Known to Self Not Known to Self
Known to Other  Empathetic
 Trustworthy
 Helpful
 Friendly
 Confident
 Self-conscious
 Idealistic
 Dependable
11
Not Known to Others  Able
 Clever
 Complex
 Patient

REFLEXIVE REPORT 6
Qualities Known to Self and Others: The qualities known to me and other feels the same about me are that I
am trustworthy, helpful, friendly, confident and empathetic. I always feel good by helping other, such as helping
my friends in their studies, needs, difficult circumstances, etc. Being trustworthy is one of my big quality. I always
pursue forward with confidence and have the ability to understand someone’s situations by stepping in their
shoes.
Qualities Known to Other from which I am unaware: The new qualities which I recently known from others
are that I am Self-conscious, Idealistic and Dependable. The recent quality which one of my friends told me that
I am very self- conscious. She observed that I took so much time and care to dress up whenever I go out and I
love being in my own company. My colleagues told me that dependable is one of my quality. They said, they
never feel hesitate to depend on me on some tasks. I know that, I am a responsible person and complete my task
with full perfection. This is the thing that they can rely on me. My parents told me that I’m an Idealistic person.
As an Idealist, I think everyone will work in the best interest of others, but in reality, lots of people act solely in
their own self-interest.
Qualities Known to me but not to Others: Some of the qualities known to me but not known to others about
me are that I am clever, able, complex and patient. These are some of my hidden abilities. According to me to
survive in this word a person needs to be clever. I know that if I observe some task with full concentration then I
can able to complete that on my own. I am also complex, it’s difficult for others to know what is working in my
mind and sometimes difficult for me also. I know that I have huge amount of patience in me. I don’t rush for
things. I always first measure the pros and cons of my decisions, do the inquiry and then take decisions. I think
this quality is in every person who is having zodiac sign Libra.
Reflective Leadership Thinking
These above feedbacks about my leadership qualities are very helpful for me to know my strengths which will
help me grab future opportunities and reduce my weaknesses. This reflective analysis shows both down and up
moments in my life. The feedback from my family, friends, peer and colleagues are quite good but I think I still
need to improve in lots of things, such as become more extrovert, open for communication, come out of comfort
zone and keep building a good network to grab opportunities to work in a corporate industry and live an healthy
environment. To become a great leader, I also need to be aware of latest developments around me. As a leader I
13
REFLEXIVE REPORT 7
want to be fear, equal, know how to get work done from others, always be there when they need me, motivational,
energetical, intelligent, good communicator, innovative, etc. A leader needs to be creative, innovative and
dynamic. In today’s world being creative is one of the big factors for success. Because of dynamic environment
a leader needs to be ready to tackle any situation. For example, due to current threat of Corona Virus every
country is lockdown and we can see the world leaders are continuously working and keep helping the community
by whatever way possible. A leader needs to be ready for unexpected situations. As a leader, person need to be
powerful enough to defend their organisation from external threats and internal weaknesses. Finally, Steve Job
in Apple’s slogan in 1997 remark that only the crazies who believe they will transform the world, they do. (Steve
Jobs, 1997).
Conclusion
To conclude, this reflective report shows me the facts of my personality which I own and need to gather or
improve. In addition, the theories of leadership which are linked for my personal development will help me to
improve further and achieve a reputable role in my life. It will help me to bring mindfulness into my social,
professional and personal growth. This writing will show how people around me think about me. At last, I want
to conclude it with a phrase “If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it
even if I may not have it at the beginning.” (Mahatma Gandhi).
