1. Project Title
I have selected “The generation of Organic farm fertiliser based on IoT and Automation” as a
project. I have created the blog for this project to update it with researched ideas on a weekly basis
with the help of Think space This project blog helps me to “think by writing” to create the better
project.
2. Rationale
We know farming without technologies or smart device are very time consuming and either too less
the materials are used or too waste of many useful materials like seeds, water and fertiliser etc.
“IOT and Automation” will help us in the future for more efficient development and production of
food as fast as 25% than now. We are doing this to help farming in near future as the population is
going to grow much more than now. (Lohchab, Kumar, Suryan, Gautam & Das, 2018) Farmers still
use the chemical fertiliser for their crops as it is useful but harmful at the same time so we are trying
to solve this problem with the help of technologies and smart devices for more use of authentic and
organic fertiliser.
3. Research Questions





What will be the impact of organic fertiliser created using IoT in farming?
Will technologies be really helpful for farmers?
Analyse the difference between the chemical fertiliser and organic fertiliser on farming.
How geofencing will be effective to sense the waste from farm?
How much IoT will be useful in the generation of organic fertiliser?

4. Conceptual framework
Aim of IoT integrates the virtual and physical world with the medium of the internet to exchange
information and communication. IoT is defined as a system which are interlinked with computer
devices, digital and mechanical machines, animals, people or objects those are provided with unique
identity and transferred the data from one network to another without any human or computer
intervention.(Elijah, Rahman, Orikumhi, Leow & Hindia, 2018) As IoT has a distributed nature, the
nodes which are battery operated and placed in the open field, it can be very difficult to replace the
power source. Hence the power constraints are very strict, which affects the hardware selections and
the power features are low of the selected areas devices are mostly considered when designing the
new system. These characteristic devices have long term stability and can be sustained through all
harvesting process. (Thou is, Katsoulas, Bartzanas & Kittas, 2017)

5. Methodology
 Analysis of sources of information: The source of the data are formatted in a specific
reference styles using tools like APA referencing and EndNote. APA referencing is done
from http://student.csu.edu.au/study/referencing-at-csu. Or EndNote app is install the
version for EndNote used is EndNote X7. This projects referencing is done using APA
references.

Research method: The research of the project topic is done from the valid and legal sites
were the topics have the copyright and proved with are proper level of experience. We are

using different sites like PRIMO search, Google Scholar, IEEE explorer and Peer Review
for our project.

Data collection or systems design methods: there are different type of methods for
collecting data like Survey method, Quantitative methods and Qualitative methods. In our
project we will be using the idea and information with the help of qualitative methods.
o Survey methods: The data which are collected from different person or sites like

interview or Questionnaires.
o Quantitative methods: The data which have the related information which are given or
copied from other sources to give a summarised idea about the topic. Those are created
in Blogs, Articles and Newspaper.

o Qualitative methods: The data are collected from the ethical and legal documents likes
IEEE paper, Research books, Case study and Research documents created by
experts.(“Ethical Considerations – Research Methodology”, 2020)
Ethical Issues:

o Informed consent: There is no participant in this project as this is a individual
project.
o Do no harm: no harm would be done to any person by any mean who related to the
project as the whole project will be done on timely basis as plan is created.
o Confidentiality: It is been ensured that the information which are used in our project
will not be shared or given access to any one.
o Anonymity: Anonymity is mailed while searching for the information from the
documents.

o Only assess relevant components: The only documents will be used which are valid
and relevant to the project and the data are related to the project topic.(“Ethical
considerations”, 2020)
Compliance Requirements : The policies which are create at workplace and industry who

have their own identity and copywriters for their products and documents. This is done as to
keep plagiarism cases away.

6. WBS

Project Initiation: Selection of the topic for the project. Create the layout, map which will
be helpful in the future project, analysis of the design for planning purpose. Creating the
final proposal and WBS plan
Project Planning: Create the plan, Gathering of data, tools and devices. Planning for further

building and plotting of sensors. The development of model and checking the impact of
technologies.

Project Execution: Development of the model for project, R&D on the project
programming code, integration of the network, devices and program.
Project Monitoring and Controlling: Preparation of draft presentation, Testing and bug
fixing of the project then retesting the bug-fixing and delivering the final test report
Project Closure: Weekly blog posting to be noted and Plotting of sensor and devices in

fields, the final delivery or report of the product and checking for any
maintenance/reporting.

7. Risk Analysis
In an analysis we can find the challenges in few phases like Confidentiality, Network, Device
Security, IoT hardware and software Organisational and storage. Analysing those risk in different
level like low, medium and high and managing all the risk as per priority.

Confidentiality: When it comes to application there is always a risk on confidentiality as
one other person should get access to our database or application.
Network: The gap in security may exploit or affect our private data by threats and illegal

access into the system through the network. The IoT network will be more open to threats
like eavesdroppers, denial of service, man-in-middle etc. hence we need more strong
connection of the network to eliminate this gap.

Device Security: The security of the devices should be maintained in the farm it may get
affected by birds or animal roaming in or around the field.
IoT hardware and software: The hardware need to face different harsh weather conditions
like strong winds, heavy rain, and the devices in the end which is active for all the time
needs to be taken care of as it will be active on limited battery time.
Organisational and storage: As per the requirement changes we need to change the storage

spaces. If an application version needs to be upgraded if new features added or if device gets
upgraded all related features will get affected and storage need to be change and updated as
per devices and applications.

9. Challenges and impact
To check the impact of organic fertiliser which are created using IoT in farming and how will
technologies will help us in real life. The devices like camera and solar, and technologies like
geofencing, image process and analysis and program codes will need to be tested to check their
effectiveness on sensing the waste from farm. The difference between chemical fertiliser and
organic fertiliser will prove how much the project is successful. When all these challenges will
overcome and tested positive we will get to know if IoT is useful in the generation of organic
fertiliser.
