Fundraising manager must be able to communicate and presentations is important to keep donors in high level environments such as corporations, business of all sizes, business leaders, and the community to ensure they are happy with the outcomes of their funding of your program. Managers will often keep track of their own expense needs of how much money it will cost for venues, staff, and what their need for donations in their particular cause is. Managing research is an important function to keep track of a data base information on donors in which information technology is very useful especially with the current trend of social media. Managers can use libraries and the internet for marketing tools. In all the manager’s skills, abilities and qualities are to be honest ethical, use time management well and to multi-task for efficiency.
Demographics are important not only for the type of donors you need for your program, but also for industry with histories of contributing to like causes. When you look for trusts or foundations I would look first within my own state since some foundations and trust will only contribute to a specific area or cause. It would be silly to request funds in large amounts from an area that is economically depressed instead you would find a medium where their might be a strong middle class due to certain types of industry. People usually give to what is needed for their own community with the exception of extreme need such as a natural disaster or tragedy. Demographics also provides information about your target audience; what are their behaviors, interests and what they expect. Just like elections, candidates will use demographics to find voting trends, common issues, age groups of who vote etc. The same with fundraising.
Some of the challenges that managers have in strategic planning is following future trends from the knowledge offered by collaborators and volunteers. By not having current information and looking and historical background of past and current donors hinder good decision making. Tracking donor behavior by either statistical information, surveys or even keeping in touch with clients can make a program fail. Other problems are to diversifying their their current benefactors by using social networking. Other problems is implementing policy and responsibility of tasks to designated staff. One of the most important and at times hard to fill is the volunteer pool to keep fresh ideas and new contacts.

For a manager to successfully manage a nonprofit organization they need a few skills, abilities, and qualities. They need to buy into the mission of the organization. “The reason one engages in fundraising is to enhance and expand the financial base for the sport organization or program” (Stier, 1999). They need to understand that their position is different than someone who is use to volunteering in a field. The fundraising manager has to be in charge of those that are working under them assisting with the grants and activities to get the funds for the organization. Another part of understanding how to actually do fundraising is to understand the budget. This means that they will be working closely with others that are stakeholders in the organization.
These people could be the accountant, the program manager, or the board of directors. “There were no studies found documenting differences between large and small companies in forecasting and budgeting practices. Owing to organization structural differences, it was thought that some practices, reports, and review levels would be different, but statistical significance tests had not been conducted prior to this study” (Steed, 2009). They do need to possess good communication skills both verbally and non-verbally they need to be open and ready for change in a moment’s notice they must have the ability to speak in front of crowds and speak with 101 businesses great qualities would be having someone who’s had nonprofit experience.
Depending upon where the organization is located demographic plays the part it is very important when it comes to servicing the community. For those in the community that is less fortunate than others they may need more funding war organizations to help with specific areas such as housing food or even clothing. To successfully raise funds there needs to be an organization that is worthy of it whether it is a new program or a change of how the program will be ran. There should be a strategic team to decided what the funds will be used for and when. Even how they’re going to get the funds. Often times fundraisers are done through charity events dinners or just plain asking for donations are a few of the things that comes into play.
