PLEASE BOLD CONCEPTS AND THEORIES FROM THE COURSE
- As a new CO in the Main Jail in your city, you soon realize that a great deal of corruption and graft are taking place. Correctional officers bring in contraband(drugs) for inmates in return for money, food bought for the inmates often ends up in the trunks of staff cars and money is siphoned from inmate accounts. Would you keep your head down and do your job or go to your supervisor? What could be the result of both of those options?
What if by exposing the corruption you implicated yourself?
- You are a prison psychologist, and during one of your counseling sessions with a drug-offender, he confesses that he has been using drugs. Obviously, this is a serious violation of prison rules. Should you report him? What if he tells you he also has an escape plan?
- You are a Probation officer whose caseload includes a single Mom with two disabled children. She is the sole support of the kids and works as a topless dancer and a waitress to make ends meet. You know she smokes and sells marijuana on a regular basis to relieve stress. Clearly this is a probation violation, however, if you file a violation on her she will go back to prison. You know she is doing a good job with the kids and they are strongly bonded. You also know that prison for her means separate foster home placement or group homes for the adolescent kids. What would you do?
