Do we write this assessment in third person, or first person?

Only write in the first person when it is explicitly recommended to do so. First person should be used in the conclusion, and third person for the rest of the task.

Are in-text references included in the total word count for this assessment?

No

Are we given the +/- 10% leeway in relation to word count?

Yes

How should I structure this assignment?

Please use essay format for this assignment. If headings assist in clarity, you are welcome to use them, but as a reader I should understand how each section flows from the previous. In addition, structuring your assessment as per the marking criteria in the rubric will help you write clearly to address the rubric, and assist your marker to recognise how you are answering the question,

Do we have to attach the chosen case study to the assessment?

You don’t need to attach the case study, but you do need to make sure you specify which case study you are using at the top of the assignment.

Content

Can I focus on a specific type of one of the illnesses from the list? For example, focus on just rheumatoid arthritis or just osteo arthritis?

Yes you can, but please make sure that this is clear from the introduction that you have decided to take a specific focus.

What is meant by explaining key factors for optimal care delivery? Is that in relation to person-centred care or more in line with detection and prevention?

Detection and prevention goes beyond the scope of the essay given the word count. Optimal care is referring to current care for the person with a diagnosis of the selected chronic illness. You should explore what the literature suggests the best ways care can be offered to patients with their chosen disease, specifically addressing the needs of the person in your case study. This should focus on the role of the nurse in facilitating those with the disease to best access patient centred care.

For the introduction, should I be talking about people with the illness in general or be specific to the case study?

Have a close look at the rubric – the difference between a credit/distinction/high distinction is your ability to evaluate the key factors for optimal delivery in the context of the specific case. Please note that the rubric also specifies that you use scholarly literature to fully support your points.

How specific do I need to be with my chosen area?

You are expected to research resources specific to a chosen area, but how specific you want to be is up to you. Sydney is a little too broad, as it encompasses over 4 million people and geographically disparate area – it could take you over two hours to drive from north sydney to western sydney. Here is a map of local health districts you may find useful :

You do not have to, but you could choose to specify one of these areas. Please feel free to be creative and look for more specific local resources within your chosen area.

Do I need to include a description of the illness (symptoms and pathophysiology) or can I just leave that out, as I am trying to use my word count to my best advantage and it doesn’t mention anything on pathophysiology in the rubric?

The rubric doesn’t mention it, so it is not required. However, I think it would be very beneficial to the assignment if you demonstrated your understanding of the disease throughout the work. For example, when I was marking the previous assessment, I could tell that people had not done sufficient research when the way they describe people’s symptoms was unrealistic, or when they had their person be absolutely fine and have no emotional or physical effects from having just survived cancer. Make sure you understand the disease, because this will help you understand how to best address the rubric.
