Note: This Project accounts for 40% of the Student Final Grade.
Instructions1:
- You are required to accomplish your work individually.
- The required tasks should be documented in a report using MS-Word.
- The project report should include an introduction, the body, a conclusion and your own reflection, and a list of references.
- The provided template must be used. The report contents should not exceed 5 pages.
- A soft copy (Report Word + Presentation) must be submitted to the instructor. The Soft copy should be uploaded to the Moodle Turnitin.
- This project will be automatically checked by the Turnitin system.
Data breaches and cyber-attacks have been historically increasing. In this project, you are required to research recent information security related incidents and issues (data breaches, cybersecurity incidents, privacy issues, mobile security, etc..). Based on your research, describe the incident, what was the target of the incident and what was exploited, who was affected, what was the consequences of the what occurred, the tools/techniques used (example DDoS, vulnerability in obsolete systems, social engineering, etc..). The report will also need to mention the affected entity, and how many people / systems / records were affected.
The student should include the following sections in the report:
Section 1: Executive Summary (5 marks)
The executive summary provides a brief description of what is included in your report. It allows the read to quickly get acquainted with the information contained within your full report.
Section 2: Background (5 marks)
Provide a background of your research into a particular security incident. Also, mention how and where did you find information included in your report.
Section 3: Description (20 marks)
Detailed explanation of the techniques (or explanation of a security plan) as applicable to the topic. This section should include at a minimum the following subsections:
- Incident description (2 marks)
- The target entity/organization (and why the data/attack is meaningful to the perpetrator). (2 mark)
- What was exploited. (3 marks)
- Who was affected (users, employees, community, etc..) (2 marks)
- How many people / systems / records were affected. (1 mark)
- What was the consequences of the what occurred. (5 marks)
- The tools/techniques used (example DDoS, vulnerability in obsolete systems, social engineering, etc..). (5 marks)
Section 4: Prevention/Solution (5 marks)
- This section describes how such incident could have been prevented.
- What is your recommendation?
Section 5: Conclusion (5 marks)
- This section provides a conclusion of the report
- A reflection (your own opinion) or such incident/issue affects how companies and people need to treat valuable data.
Task 4: Presentation
Each student should present her/his work in the presence of their classmates. The following sections can be included to help you with the contents of your presentation:
- Executive Summary
- Background
- Description
- Prevention
- Conclusion
The evaluation of your presentation will be based on the following criteria:
- Clarity of demonstration.
- Awareness of the contents being presented and the response to examiners’ questions.
- Utilization of time.
