A position paper presents a defined approach to an unresolved topic for which there is no agreed upon consensus. The purpose of the position paper is to persuade others (including policy makers) to support your stated position.
The assignment is to write a 5 page position paper on a topic of your choosing in the realm of maternal and child health.
The student will choose a contemporary issue in maternal and child health (not one that is discussed in class) and prepare a short (up to 5 pages) position paper in which he presents the problem, alternative approaches and his/her policy recommendation. The paper is to be based upon at least 5 articles in peer-reviewed journals as well as independent thought.
First, carefully delineate your topic. Present background information and what is known.
Then, address the various positions that may be adopted to address the issue. (If there are no alternative positions then there is no dilemma.) What are the strengths or implications of these alternative positions?
Then present and clarify your position on the topic from among the alternatives that you have presented.
Please bring arguments/evidence to support your position from professional literature and international practice. Why have you not adopted the alternative approaches? Address the expected implications from adopting your position.
Summarize your position.
Please note your references in a standard, accepted style.
Side note *any topic of relevance would be okay, I did ask the professor if doing something with cannabis and pregnant mothers would be appropriate and she said yes, so maybe that would help*
