Rocco is running for mayor of the City. Having served three terms on the City Council, Rocco believes he is the best candidate for office because he believes he has the experience to promote economic growth and inclusion. Rocco hires a large staff to run and promote his campaign. One of his staff members, Althea, is a recent college grad who is hoping to gain
experience working for Rocco’s campaign so she can also run for mayor one day. Althea works hard on Rocco’s campaign and her efforts are noticed by her supervisor Bill, and Rocco himself. Rocco wins the election and offers several of his campaign staff, including Althea, jobs in the Mayor’s Office. Althea is thrilled by the offer and eagefly takes the job. Soon after, the city newspaper publishes an editorial claiming that Mayor Rocco is corrupt and lied about his qualifications. In the editorial, Mayor Rocco is also accused of only hiring and promoting women he has had a sexual relationship with. Althea sees a notification on her phone about the editorial as she is walking down the sidewalk to go to her office. Upon seeing the editorial, she becomes very distressed and does not realize she has walked onto the road. Franklin, who was texting on his phone, does not notice Althea until the last minute and swerves to avoid hitting her. In doing so, Franklin hits a parked car owned by Shirley.
