Glycolysis is the first step of cellular respiration. This process breaks down glucose into two pyruvic acids this process occurs in the cytoplasm of the cell and produces 2 atp and 2 NADH. Following glycolysis which occurs in the cytoplasm outside of the mitochondrion the rest of cellular respiration occurs inside of the mitochondrion.
