Excelfior Ltd. is a Melbourne based Digital Communication Company that specialises in designing, hosting and managing corporate websites. Apart from the regular Admin, Accounts, Finance and Marketing Departments, they also have groups of Front and Back End Developers along with Flash Designers.
The existing network is old, not very secure and having various networking issues. They want to rebuild their entire network. Assume that you have been appointed in the role of an IT Consultant to re-build, manage and operate the new, secure, domain based network system for Excelfior Ltd. You are required to use the latest technologies which can accommodate their network load now and for another five years.
Task 1:
It is difficult to build a solution if you do not know the requirements. Your task is to gather requirements (User, Application, Device and Network) to complete this project with the help of techniques such as Questionnaire, interviews from Users or Management staff. Students must discuss questionnaire/interview with tutor before finalising all requirements.
Furthermore, with the help of diagrams and flow charts, categorise and discuss all requirements in groups and create assessment plan for the Excelfior Ltd. network.
Task 2:
Your task is to come up with a logical, efficient and scalable network design that is suitable for Excelfior. Analyse all requirements gathered in Task 1 and proposed suggestions accordingly. Create network performance metrics including (Bandwidth, Delay, Jitter, Packet loss, Utilisation, uptime or responsiveness etc) and justify your proposed solution.
Make sure you provide enough information that will allow IT technicians to build network infrastructure from scratch. The Company has an adequate budget to purchase networking devices, obviously does not want to spend more than necessary.
Overview
Excelsior Ltd is a company which is deal in the Digital Communication and company have expertise in the hosting and designing and marketing .there are a different department that is an account, finance and marketing, and admin. They have also a developer for front-end design with flash. They have a current network setup with a lot of issues and they have appointed one IT consultant for the setup and renew old network for market growth. The company wants to use minimum technology for reducing network load for the next 5 year.
Task 1 Requirements Gathering
For gather information first of all I will prefer method PPDIOO.In this method there are different stages are there .First stage is prepare stage in this stage I will create the full plan for network design and the i will interact the management and take the verbal interview .
Step 1: Review information
Excelsior Ltd has good business and company have existing infrastructure and there are lots of issue in the current office and they won’t solve the issue by resolve and renew network design with minimum technology for reducing the load. There are lots of systems are connected to each other by using a switch with a configuration of ) 10/100Mb and have 10pin.In the network, they have used 14 switches. Staff a system with the different configuration with 2GB RAM and 250GB secondary hard disk (HDD). And there are a 7port cabinet and AMD core dual processor. The company is using DVD Samsung DVD ROM and they are using a high-resolution graphics card.
Step 2: Interview with the Management.
Below details, I have collected by interview with the management team.
Company staff uses the email like Gmail and Hotmail and which is provided by ISP provider. They are using Google and safari browser to access web client s and this is provided by the ISP server. Staff can also access the Gmail account from their mail for provide service 27X7
Staff can share a business document in the network and they are using a spreadsheet. Staff can send and receive a large file in the office from mobile and computer and laptop system. There has a large size of a file and they want to keep data security and the entire data store on the centralized server. The company has a color printer and they can share in the network. They have also wireless facilities and they can access through mobile and other devices in office premises. All the computer network devices use the IP address version IP4 with “194.32.9.0/2” for the public network and “192.168.0.0/24” address is used for the private network. Each department I have to assign the individual subnet and entire office share internet service and communicate with the each other.
Step 3:- Choose specific services and devices [6]
After complete step 2 and I have done an analysis of all the network and create a plan for what type of service should be used in the company and here I have decided a good device and advanced devices for efficient server and high-speed bandwidth. After analysis, I have created the plan for budget and come to minimize risk. I have created a financial report for the network design in the point of company benefit. I have chosen the best budget plan and forward suggestion to improve the quality and provide excellent service.
Technique used for collecting requirements in Task 1
Interviews
An interview is the best methodology for collecting data from face to face interview. An interview can be done by a single person or multiple people. Here I have asked a question with management team related to existing network and how and who access to a network.

In this section, I have to ask a general question from the starting to end for the existing network. The main goal of an interview is to get the right path to design a computer network.
Structure
In this question, I can ask a specific question to obtain client requirement.
Make easy WorkshopsIn this section, we come up with a large group and take the meeting and discuss the requirement and idea and get the agreement. Here we can get the all the functional requirement into one point and increase the speed of the process and create the agenda for design network.
Focus Team
In this section, we can make a discussion between the team and discuss the client expectation and the requirement. Take the feedback and identify the what is the real requirement of the client.
Brainstorming
In this assignment, we have done a discussion about ideas, problem and how to resolve them. In this section, I have taken an interview about what are the different problem or what is a different problem are facing while access network. Expert gives the solution over the problem and finally, we make the agreement.
Prototyping
In this section, first, we create the primary goal and requirement and finally create the plan .This is called as a prototype. Here we review the plan and finally concentrate on the weakness and create the better strategy to overcome this problem.
