A Benthic zone is essentially the ground underneath a body of water. This is could be either the Sea floor or the bottom of a lake etc. Therefore examples of Benthic zones encompass a wide range of sediment types such as; sandy bottoms rocky outcrops corals and mud. Organisms living within this zone or which have a strong relationship with the substrate bottom are called Benthos.
