Lab 5.1
The CHF data should be used for this lab. To prepare the CHF data for this lab, please perform the following steps:
1. Freeze the first row so that you will be able to see the column headings when performing calculations at the bottom of the data. (Menu commands: View > Freeze Panes > Freeze Top Row)
2. Go to row 393 and type the following labels in cells A393 to A400:
Mean
Median
Mode
Excluded maximum value mean
Excluded maximum value median
Excluded maximum value mode
Variance
Range
Descriptive Statistics Using Excel – Central Tendency
1. Calculate the mean, median, and mode LOS and charge.
2. Sort the charge values in ascending order.
3. Calculate the mean, median, and mode charge excluding the maximum value.
4. Did the mean, median, and mode change more? Why?
5. Repeat that exercise for LOS.
6. What do you think is the ‘best’ statistic to describe the ‘typical’:
a. LOS or charge
b. Admission source
c. Gender
d. Discharge status
Descriptive Statistics Using Excel – Spread
1. Calculate the variance and range LOS and charge.
a. Note: Use the var.s function to calculate the variance. This function calculates the sample variance.
2. Sort the charge values in ascending order.
3. Calculate the variance and range charge excluding the maximum value.
4. Did the variance and range mean or median change more? Why?
5. Repeat that exercise for LOS.
One Sample T-Test
Test the hypothesis that the sample mean LOS for MS-DRG 291 is different from the national standard. Obtain the national Medicare LOS from HCUP chart below.
Be sure to state the null and alternative hypotheses and set the alpha prior to performing the test.
Two Sample T-Test
Test the hypothesis that charges for patients with MS-DRG 291 are different for men and women.
Be sure to state the null and alternative hypotheses and set the alpha prior to performing the test.
How can I upload the excel sheet for this assignment?
