After learning about fallacies, don’t be surprised if you start picking out the errors of logic others are using when speaking. The discussion posting over fallacies is easy and hard at the same time. Select a fallacy of your choice and post an example of it being used around you. You can use a quote someone said to you, find a fallacy from a news story, a television show, or some other type of media (movie, music, commercial), or you can create one yourself. For this discussion posting, please post the following: 1. Write the fallacy you found–what was actually said or written. This can be 1-2 sentences, depending on what was said or where it was located. 2. Identify the type of fallacy being made (either/or…or just about any of the others that were listed in the book and notes). Explain why you believe it fits the category it does (deduction, induction, categorization, analogy, authorization, or plea). 3. Prior to learning about fallacies, would you have realized that the statement or comment was a fallacy? How does the identification of the fallacy change your opinion of what was said? Was the fallacy made because a lack of experience with the subject matter, a lack of familiarity with other points of view, or underdevelopment methods of argumentative reasoning were used?
