Please double-space your answers and include reasonable margins and page numbers. References to specific documents will make your essays better. All references need to be properly cited.
Write one essay in response to each prompt. Include both essays in one document for submission.
1. Using your readings of Rousseau and on the French Revolution, write an essay of 250 words (no less than 200 and no more than 300 words) in which you explain how the French Revolution picked up on the ideas of Rousseau. Be sure to make specific reference to the readings.
2. Write an essay of 750 words (no less than 650 and no more than 850 words) on this question: how did the revolutions of 1848 differ from those that occurred in 1787-89? The quality of your essay with depend on specific references to trends and events.

Assignments must be submitted using the Turnitin links on the course website. The links can be found on the Written Assignments tab—look for the icon that looks like a piece of paper with an arrow. For this class, you cannot access Turnitin through MyUCLA. There is a step-by-step tutorial for uploading your assignment to Turnitin on the FAQs for Enrolled Students on the course website.
You should confirm that your submission was successful by clicking on the assignment link and going to “My Submissions.” Under the filename, you should see “Status: Submission successfully uploaded to Turnitin.” It can sometimes take a few minutes for the confirmation message to appear. If you do not see that message, your assignment has not been successfully submitted
and you should try again. It is your responsibility to make sure your assignment has been uploaded successfully.
