Write a 3 page or longer essay (double-spaced, time roman, 1 inch margins, get it edited at the WCC Student Success Center). Be sure to address all of the following questions in this order.
1. How have you come to define your race or ethnicity?
2. How can you explain that race is a social construction and not about DNA or color per se? What is the difference between race and ethnicity?
3. How do Takaki, Morrision, and Borunda help us to understand a history of race and ethnic relations in the United States? What do they and others say about the history of race and ethnic relations? Offer direct quotes from their readings and explain the quotes.
4. How have or can Anti-racist White and Black citizens form coalitions or alliances in history against institutional racism? Consider the material in class to answer this and the questions above.
