U.S History: Research essay
This project is a research paper on a topic in U.S. History from the Antebellum Period through 2005• Topics must be submitted to and approved by the History teacher on the attached sheet. It is suggested that topics be selected and submitted for approval by Friday January 25•
The paper is not merely a recitation of facts. It will be an interpretation of events. Examples of this interpretation may include discussion of the factors affecting the course of an event or the effects of an event or person on future events or developments. These are merely examples and are not meant to eliminate other forms of historical discussion.
The paper will be a joint History/ELA assignment. Both teachers will have a hand in grading. Either teacher may be used as resources for proper development of discussion. The papers will be submitted to the History teacher.
The paper will be typed and include a minimum of five full pages of discussion. The project must be double spaced, 12 point, Times New Roman font. The paper must include: a cover sheet and a bibliography. The cover sheet and bibliography are not counted in the page count.
The cover sheet will include: a title for your paper, your name, your history teacher’s name, your ALA teacher’s name, and the period numbers for both.
The bibliography will include a minimum of five sources including at least one primary source and one professional journal article. Wikipedia, Yahoo Answers, etc. are not acceptable sources.

Plagiarism is unacceptable and will be dealt with sternly. Any factual information or interpretations of others included in the paper must give credit to the source. The paper will be submitted in printed form in MLA format.
The paper is due no later than February 15. The rubric will be published separate from this document. The rubric will be attached as the front document of the final submittal.
