Spring 2019 Class Research Project
For this project, the class has decided to study the impact of technology on attention and memory.
The basic design that will be investigated will be comparing participants that: 1) take no notes; 2) take notes by hand; and 3) take notes on the computer while watching a lecture. Participants will then complete a filler task before completing a memory test about the lecture.
When writing the introduction section, therefore, you may wish to consider the literature on how distraction affects attention, how technology affects attention, and how distraction affects learning and memory, along with the specific literature on how different forms of notetaking affect attention and learning.
A couple of notes to help you with your introduction section: if you find studies that are similarly structured to ours (and there are many), pay attention to how they structured their introductions to set up the research question. Reading those introductions will show you there are many ways to write an introduction and will also help you find potentially helpful articles for your own papers. Remember, however, that you cannot just quote or copy from other articlesā introduction sections. s
