Tourism, Hospitality or Events- Academic Literature Review- CSR Activity Assignment
Part A – Academic Literature Review – review of three CSR journal articles
You are to select three (3) peer reviewed journal articles relating to Corporate Social Responsibility in the Tourism, Hospitality or Events sectors. You can find your articles from any number of Journals in these fields. You may use one of the journal articles listed on Collaborate but need to search for two other CSR articles yourselves.(If you are unsure, seek advice from VU librarians.) Ensure where possible the articles selected for review have a connection to the individual sector you are focusing upon for your case study company.
Your role is to write a (literature review) or brief synopsis of each of the three articles that you have selected ensuring that you discuss the key themes, research methodology employed, the results and what those results mean in the context of that sector whether that be tourism, hospitality or events (approx. 1000 words)
Part B – Case study analysis
Choose a company operating within tourism, hospitality or events. Your group needs to conduct preliminary research on this company to ensure that you will be able to access sufficient and appropriate material regarding that company’s CSR programs, and ensure that they actually operate such programs in their business.
Provide a short introduction that explains the nature and brief history of the company
Discuss the range of activities that comprise its CSR program(s) and if possible classify them.
Review what examples of verification (if any) are available that can confirm the performance of the company’s CSR program and whether these sources can be deemed to be independent.
Your research should be based on secondary sources only. It is expected that both academic and non- academic sources will be considered in your research on the organisation. Therefore company websites, annual reports, newspaper articles, trade journals and other third party sources should be used to gather the information required of your targeted case study company. Where sustainability reports are published by the organisation these should be examined.
Part C – Blending Theory and Practice
Look at the research findings in Part A and investigate whether there are potential links between the theoretical issues identified by your literature review (in Part A) and whether these issues and findings are identified in the CSR programs of your case study company. Discuss the links to research however if there are none evident then you should indicate whether there is any scope to adopt them.
In conclusion and based not only on your review of the company’s operations but the theoretical perspective make any recommendations or comments that you believe would improve the effectiveness of the company’s CSR programs.
