Context:
In your reading and activities for this subject, you have discovered the concept of requirement
engineering and the entire procedures that involved in the process derived from the real-world cases.
You also explored the importance of requirement engineering and the relevant case studies have
guided you to understand it further. By undertaking this assessment, you will be able to contextualise
and explain the high-level concepts of requirement engineering and explain the role of requirement
engineering in achieving organizational success.
Task Instructions:
You, as a group, should first read and understand the following case before proceeding to answer the
questions in Assessment Tasks section. Note that every piece of information provided in the following
case serves a purpose.
The case
ABC Pty Ltd is a start-up tech company (the ‘Company’) based in Sydney Australia. They are currently
seeking to develop a mobile app or a web application (collectively called an ‘app’), which provide ondemand trades & handyman services to their customers. The objective of the app is to connect
tradesmen and customers. ABC envisioned that this app will provide a strong revenue stream to the
company and other business opportunities from a wide handyman network.
The founder of the Company has envisaged an app that enable customers to find trustworthy
tradesmen to get the job done; it is also a platform for tradespersons to find jobs and earn an extra
income stream. Typical jobs posted on the platform should include home cleaning, heating and cooling
system services, gardening, airport pick up & delivery, IKEA furniture assembly, garbage removal,

plumbing, and other tradesmen & handyman jobs. The founder also provided the following very highlevel and rough ideas for the app:
For customers, they can post job(s) on the app, browse through tradespersons’ profile, and contact
them through the in-app instant messenger.
For tradespersons, they can put up a profile on the app, browse through jobs available, and contact
customers through the in-app instance messenger.
Once the job is completed, payment can be made securely through the app. The customer will also
have the opportunity to rate and review the tradesperson.
ABC wants to push this app to the market in the next six months and have secured an investment for
this app.
ABC has engaged you (i.e. a group of you) as the requirements analyst in this project.
Assessment tasks
Part A. As a group write a report addressing the following tasks:
1. Establish your credentials in giving requirements engineering advice to ABC. Note that you are
not a student in this case. You are required to undertake some research and identify
qualifications, certificates or experiences related to requirements engineering that will add to
your credentials.
2. Advise ABC Pty Ltd of the importance of requirements engineering, and the implications of
not having in place proper requirement engineering practices in the project.
3. Advise ABC Pty Ltd of the key processes in requirements engineering in relation to the project.
Provide (a) a description of each requirements engineering process; (b) the objectives, the
main activities, key stakeholders and outputs of each process.
4. Advise ABC Pty Ltd of a plan for requirement elicitation for the proposed app. Given the nature
of this app, what are the requirements elicitation activities you would perform? Justify your
choices. Provide detailed descriptions of at least two requirements elicitation techniques. For
example, if an interview is to be conducted, you will need to provide:
• who are the interviewees;
• who are the interviewers;
• the interview questions;
5. Based on the case description and use common sense, for the proposed app, list
a. At least two (2) business requirements;
b. At least five (5) functional requirements;
c. At least three (3) non-functional requirements;
The requirements must satisfy the criteria of a “good” requirement discussed in Module 2.1.
Your report should include the following
1. Title page: Subject code and name, assessment number, report title, assessment due date, word
count (actual), student names, student IDs, Torrens email address, campus learning facilitator, and
Subject coordinator. Not included in the word count.
2. Executive summary: should include the purpose of the report, the problem including key issues
considered and how they were investigated, and your findings. This part should be approximately

three quarters of an A4 page but must not be longer than one (1) A4 page. Not included in the word
count.
3. Table of Contents (ToC): should list the report topics using decimal notation. Need to include the
main headings and subheadings with corresponding page numbers, using a format that makes the
hierarchy of topics clear. Because you are including a ToC the report pages should be numbered in the
footer as follows: title page has no page number; and main text to have Arabic numerals commencing
at 1. Create the ToC using MS Word’s ToC auto-generator rather than manually typing out the ToC.

4. Introduction: provide a brief description of the company as given in the case scenario including any
assumptions, a concise overview of the problem you have been asked to research, the main
aims/purpose of the report, the objectives to be achieved by writing the report (include the tasks
outlined in the case study) and how you investigated the problem. Provide an outline of the sections
of the report. Should be approximately 200 words.
5. Body of the report (use appropriate headings in the body of the report.): Ensure that you address
the tasks listed in the case study scenario. Do NOT use generic words such as ‘Body, Body of the
Report, Tasks’ as section headings. Create meaningful headings and subheadings that reflect the topic
and content of your report. Should be approximately 1600 words.
6. Conclusion: restate the purpose of the report and key issues investigated and the related findings
based on your research and analysis. Explain the significance of your findings for addressing the
problem stated in the case scenario and any limitations. State how your report has achieved its
objectives and any future work to be considered. Should be approximately 200 words.
7. Reference list. Not included in the word count.
8. Appendices if necessary. Not included in the word count.
Part B. Present to the class a 10-minute group presentation. Your presentation should include:
• The requirement elicitation plan;
• At least two (2) business requirements for the proposed app;
• At least five (5) functional requirements for the proposed app;
• At least three (3) non-functional requirements for the proposed app;
The presentation will be followed by a 5-minute Question & Answer session. All presentation will be
scheduled in Module 3 (Week 5 and 6).
General Assessment Requirement
Incomprehensible submissions. Assessments provide the opportunity for students to demonstrate
their knowledge and skills to achieve the required standard. To do this, assessment responses need
to be both clear and easy to understand. If not, the University cannot determine that students have
demonstrated their knowledge and skills. Assessments will, therefore, be marked accordingly
including the potential for 0 (zero) marks where relevant.
Case study. Assessment response must focus on the case study scenario given in the Task Instructions.
Any assessment items that do not address the case study scenario may be awarded 0 (zero) marks.

Track changes. If you use Track Changes when writing your assessment, you must ensure that the
submitted document is the final and correct version of the document. That is, if your submitted report
contains Track Changes or Comments or any other editing marks it may be awarded 0 (zero) marks. It
is your responsibility to submit the final and correct version of your report.
Check with marking criteria. Before submitting your assessment, you should check it against the
assessment criteria and the marking rubric included in this specification to ensure that you have
satisfactorily addressed all the criteria that will be used to mark your submission.
Academic language. All submissions should be thoroughly proof-read for spelling, typographical or
grammatical errors before being submitted. Do not reply on the ‘spell-check’ function in your word
processing program. If, for example, ‘affect’ is substituted for ‘effect’, your program may not detect
the error.
Group Assessment Requirement
Group assessment. This assessment is a group assignment for all students. Each group consists of 2 or
3 students. To ensure your success in this group assignment, please read and follow these
requirements regarding group formation, registration and administration.
Group Formation
Group size. Each group consists of 2 or 3 students. Groups of more than 3 students must be split into
two or more groups. Given the amount of work you need to undertake in this assignment, it is highly
suggested that you form a group of 3 students. You may be added by the Learning Facilitator to groups
that consists of less than 3 students after Module 2.1.
Inter-class groups. You must only form groups within the Class you are enrolled in. No inter-class
groups are allowed.
Remain in the same group. You must remain in the same group for this assessment.
Freedom to form groups before the deadline. You have the freedom to choose your group members
before the registration deadline. After the registration deadline, however, those who are not in a
group will be allocated to a group by the Learning Facilitator.
Group Registration
Deadline. The deadline for group registration is 11:45pm AEST Friday Module 2.1.
Penalty for not registering before the deadline. If you are not registered before the deadline you will
receive no penalty on your marks; you will, however, lose the freedom to form a group on your own.
The Learning Facilitator will assign you into a group.
Means of registration. To register your group, you must send your Learning Facilitator an email with
“[MIS604] Group Registration” in the subject line. In the body of that email, you must list out the name
and your student ID for each member in their group. The registration email must arrive at your
Learning Facilitator’s inbox before the registration deadline to be a valid registration.
Group Administration
Conflicts. If there is anything that you think you will need to involve your Learning Facilitator, please
do not hesitate to do so.

Burden to prove. If you make any allegation against any other group members, you bear the evidential
onus to prove your allegation and claims.
Group marks. Everyone in the same group will receive the same mark unless:
• there is an issue brought to the attention of the Learning Facilitator; and
• the Learning Facilitator finds it is fundamentally unfair to give every group member the same
mark.
You may be removed from a group. In some circumstances, you may be removed from you group due
to your significant and persistent lack of contribution. Once it happens, those being removed from a
group will need to undertake all assessment individually from the time they are removed. The marking
standard and criteria will remain the same.
Referencing
It is essential that you use appropriate APA style for citing and referencing research. Please see more

Submission Instructions:
Means of submission. ALL students must submit ONE MSWord document (.doc or .docx) and ONE
MSPowerPoint document (.ppt or .pptx) via the Assessment link in the main navigation menu in
MIS604: Requirements Engineering. Physical copies/Email submissions are not accepted.
No Zipped files. Students must NOT zip the MSWord document and MSPowerPoint and submit it as
one single zip/compressed file.
Complete and correct submission. Assessment, once submitted, are FINAL and therefore cannot be
modified. You bear all the onus to ensure that your submissions are final, correct (correct files in
correct format) and complete before submitting to Blackboard.
You are expected to begin this assessment when you begin the trimester, especially as you relate the
learning activities (formative assessment) in the modules to this and the other (summative)
assessments. Be sure to keep several drafts of your work as well as your notes and any sources you
used to draw on in preparing your report.
Extensions will be considered only in extenuating circumstances where the student has applied before
the due date. At that point, students are required to provide the latest draft, in case the extension is
not granted and to demonstrate they have earnestly done everything to avoid lateness.
Students are responsible for keeping appropriate back-ups and drafts of their assignments and to
submit the correct version.
