Assignment 1 Instructions
Part of this week’s assignment is to conduct a project feasibility study and engage in a requirement gathering exercise. Once a problem is identified and the scope has been defined, the need to gather requirements is discussed. Requirements gathering is the first step in project initiation. Requirements gathering is the process of determining, documenting, and managing stakeholder needs and requirements to meet project objectives. While the project manager would typically be responsible for executing the project plan and delivering on the requirements, the stakeholders are responsible for providing the specific requirements of the project and identifying the needs that will be address by the project. Projects such as implementing patient fall monitoring systems may require the need to implement a new technology that will monitor patient bed-related falls. A project focusing on reducing inpatient length of stay may have requirements that call for putting a process in place that makes hospital discharge processes more efficient. A project to reduce patient wait time in the emergency room may have a requirement to remove inefficiencies in processes during patient intake in the Emergency Department (ED) to get the patient to the ED physicians faster. A project focusing on reducing inpatient acquired sepsis may have a requirement to implement inpatient hand hygiene adherence. These are examples of stakeholder project needs. In addition, sources of functional, systemic, and technical requirements need to be generated.
For this assignment, you will use the same problem you used in Week 1. This assignment covers project initiation and planning, the first and second phases of the project lifecycle. You will also focus on activities that define the start of project planning. You will focus on understanding the problem and business case, gathering requirements, and conducting a feasibility study of requirements.
Be sure you address the following in your submission:
- Describe the stakeholders and explain how the problem impacts them
- Discuss how you will evaluate the project’s goals, timeline, and costs to determine if the project should be executed, and
- Discuss the process you will take in gathering requirements for the project and what tool you will use and why
Your report should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect graduate-level writing and APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.
