Fieldwork Exercise
Assessment 2 Revision:
Context The assessment for this course was to be experience in observation relevant to ethnography. Given the current pandemic, this assessment has been revised to focus on an online observation exercise.
Revision
For this assignment, students are to undertake a non-participant observation exercise. You will conduct an observation of four online video-format presentations. Choose ONE of the following categories for your observations:
1) 4 CCTV videos available through you tube or online generally OR
2) 4 advertisements (commercials) for the same type of product or service OR
3) 4 Promotional videos by four different universities or institutes of higher learning
Students will prepare and submit their observation notes, and briefly summarise (dot point) the main themes their observation notes reveal.
Students will provide a 500 word reflexive account of the experience of ‘doing’ observation as a qualitative research method. This account should reflect on the purpose, process and practical application of this research methodology, and is to be informed by the material covered in this course. The purpose of the assignment is for students to become familiar with the skills of observing and of documenting in a dynamic environment.
