This session is the summary of the assignment, with highlight of aims and key issues. You can also define key terms to avoid ambiguities.
- Main body – Company/Organisation X (with name) innovation study (around 2100 words)
- Company overview
This session is the overview of the company/organisation, e.g. history, product range, market, strategy, organization structure. It must be a real company/organization with a name. You can work as group to study this company/organization via interview (online) or document review through online sources and websites, but the report must be written individually.
- Method and results
In this session, you start with introducing Bessant’s Innovation Audit Tool (with reference), describing the method and procedure you adopted for the company/organisation XX innovation study.
Then, you present a score against each statement (1-40) in the Innovation Audit Tool, ranging from 1 to 7. 1 means not true. 7 means very true. The score is based on your judgement from interview or document review. It is fine to copy + paste statements from the Audit Tool with reference.
With all scores ready, you need to clear present the results with the following diagram. As you can read from the Innovation Audit Tool, Strategy = Average (1,6,11,16,21,26,31,36), Process = (2,7,12,17,22,27,32,37), Innovative organisation (Organisation) = Average (3,8,13,18,23,28,33,38), Linkage (4,9,14,19,24,29,34,39), Learning = Average (5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40)
You can discuss the scores or work together with your classmates, but you must write individually.
- Dimensions of innovation
With literature from a range of journal/online articles and textbooks, results from the Audit Tool, and evidences from business practice, you need to discuss the company/organisation’s innovation performance and suggest areas of improvement from the following five perspectives.

- Critical reflection (300 words)
Note this session should be a self-reflection, showing lessons you have learnt from this task. You can refer to Gibbs Reflective Cycle or Portsmouth University reflective writing.
- Conclusions/Recommendations (300 words)
This session is to remind the reader of the purpose of the assignment, summarize what you have discussed/ implications of your discussion, and indicate future research/application.
