The subject concerns itself with human behavior and human culture, which can be view and acknowledged in different ways by each student. A lesson in humanities can include history, economics, geography, civics and many more. Some subjects, such as maths, are formulaic and follow strict rules to reach an answer that is deemed either right or wrong. However, as humanities involves the study of human nature, the scope of right or wrong answers is much wider and allows for fair more independent thinking. This encourages students to consider and enquire for themselves in all areas of humanities. It is teaching how the world works and how the many facets of humanities influenced by human nature, rather than logical analysis of facts or numbers.

2-Why is critical inquiry curriculum needed for humanities?

Critical inquiry curriculum is an essential when learning and teaching humanities. Described by Reynolds (2019), critical inquiry learning is “when a student constructs their own knowledge, incorporating new knowledge into constructs already established in the student’s mind” (p. 57). By using this learning process in humanities allows students to be able to expand their own knowledge in many different ways. As the subject humanities has endless amounts of information, it is important that children have the chance to be able to learning everything possible to the best of their abilities. This way allows students to gather and formulate new information, ideas and concepts from multiple perspectives to enhance their own understanding. This encourages the students to formulate new ideas and ask questions to further their learning.

These lessons are generally best taught by using hands on active learning. This can allow them to use their own knowledge to able to construct new knowledge. It allows the student to think for themselves rather than constantly being taught by the book. This is why critical inquiry curriculum is essential for humanities and the learning of all students.
