Description of the Assessment:
The candidate will select a teacher to mentor on increasing student learning. The impact on P-12 student learning activity is designed for the candidate and the teacher to collaboratively identify an area of student performance needing improvement by analyzing achievement test data, developing a plan on how to improve the outcome, implementing the plan, and reviewing and reflecting on the outcome. The candidate will share research and best practices regarding instructional strategies and provide support, feedback, and technical assistance to the teacher to refine present teaching skills and learn new ones. The mentoring must be mutually agreed to by the university supervisor, candidate, teacher, and the school-based clinical faculty member. An interim and final conference will enable the candidate and teacher to review progress, assess results, and define the impact of the instructional strategy on increasing student learning.

Assuming the role of an educational leader at the school-level and prepare an integrated 6-8 page scholarly report that will analyze and address a colleague’s issue relating to classroom instruction and student learning. Based upon your readings, research, analysis, of the situation and data, respond to the specific sections. Support your position with at least research or literature references. Because of the acceptability of different approaches to the assignment, content, quality of communication, preparation, and format will constitute 100% of assignment value. For the final product, a neat and orderly format for the written portion of the assignment is required (ELCC standards 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, and 2.4). The written portion of the assignment must contain the following headings and sections:

Assuming the role of an instructional leader, reflect upon the issues and concerns of your colleague relating to teaching and learning. Given this information, describe what you would do to assist your colleague. Describe what strategies you would use to assist your colleague to improve instruction, implement best practices for student learning, and develop a comprehensive professional growth plan.
