Dworkin
An ultra-orthodox Jew (‘the candidate’) stands for election to become mayor of a big cosmopolitan city somewhere in Western Europe. Within that city, the Jews are a minority, next to other religious minorities, and a (small) majority of Christians. His faith forbids the candidate to shake hands with women. Imagine that there is a law on ceremony protocol that requires the mayor to shake hands at official and diplomatic events with all participants to that event, regardless of gender, religion, race, income or sexual orientation (‘the law’).
1) Do you think that Dworkin would say that the law infringes freedom of religion, or the right to active political participation of the religious minority group to which the candidate belongs? Explain your answer.
2) Would you agree with Dworkin on this subject?
The paper has to be maximum 750 words and no more.
I have uploaded a source of the book by Dworking. Please look at Chapter three of this source in order to answer the questions. but if you could find something else as well plase do it.
