A variety of factors such as socioeconomic, ethnic, religion, language, and lowhealth literacy contribute to disparitiesand poor health outcomes. For example, unequalaccess to care, fragmented health care systems, stigma, discrimination, lack of cultural sensitivity among health care providers, diverse cultural beliefs and behaviorsamong patients and providers, and differential treatment of persons who receive care are key determinants of racial andethnic disparities in health care and health status.
