Students have been provided with a prepared expert witness statement (in the assessment 2 section of the assessments tab on the module on blackboard from which you will be expected to give evidence as an expert witness.
Please see the list of questions below from the prosecution and defence lawyers in this case – please urself answering the questions.
Answers should be concise, professional and court appropriate and the video length should not extend 15 minutes in length in total. The judge in the case today will be referred to as ‘my lord’ and if you wish to raise any amendments in your statement then please do this after you have specified your name and qualifications. Additionally just assume that it is ok to read from your statement as you don’t need to ask permission from the judge for this assessment.
I do recommend reading and familiarising yourself with the questions a few times before you start filming yourself answering the questions.
The criteria against which achievement of the learning outcomes will be assessed are the following (additionally, the marking criteria can be viewed on the module study guide):
- Demonstrate and apply sound knowledge and understanding of expert interpretation in the court room. 2. Students should demonstrate professional competency as an expert witness within a court room environment. 3. Students should have an acceptable pace of delivery/speech. 4. Students should understand the layout and the roles of different people in the court room and should be able to apply this when receiving and answering questions under testimony. 5. Students should display language and gestures appropriate for a court room and understandable to the lay person.
