How Travel ban affected Hotels and How Food and Beverage industry got impacted with new trends introduced to the industry
Introduction
2020 the year which started with disasters since its first day of beginning, has brought world to a position of just adapting and compromising with anything coming to them. Specifically referring to the Corona Virus aka COVID-19 has forced the biggest empires or the smallest businesses to change the way they use to work. My report will be talking about how due to COVID-19 government had to put travel ban and shut down so many airlines which directly impacted Hotel industry with accommodation, simply saying there are no more customers for those big hotels, resorts and their exclusive services, followed by how due to decline in the levels of accommodation in Hotel industry impacted the Food and beverage departments of those hotels or resorts which brought them extra cost for survival at last. (Hotel Industry Trends In Australia – Tourism Investment, 2020)
Purpose
Purpose of the report is to simply put light on the challenges which came through with COVID-19 in the Hotel industry. Through this discussion we can relate industries to industries and see how one by one they were impacted. We all victimised this changing environment and saw how everyone was dealing with it. It was hard for some to adapt and survive and for some closing was the only option. Similarly, in this faze the new regulations brought some interesting trends for food and beverage department, restaurants such as tend of take away only, no dining, 1.5meter social distancing in the premises. It was very hard for some businesses to sustain themselves as F&B department in Hotels depend on revenues per head spend, not on take away revenue. This became a challenging trend for those departments, lead few to shut down and few to adapt new strategies so that they can operate and keep themselves going and going. Background
Travel ban in Australia was put on 24th March 2020 due to rising number of people affected by COVID-19. This was a legal notice for people that they won’t be able to travel out of Australia or into Australia till further notice. (Coronavirus (COVID-19) – information for Australian travellers | Smartraveller, 2020)
This directly impacted the Hotel industry as they lost their customers which were international tourists, travellers. Hotels occupancy rate came down by more than 58% all over Australia. People were no more likely to stay in hotels except people which must go through 14 days quarantine process. This forced Hotels to shut down on extreme parameters. 1000s of Hotels in Australia has been shut due to this COVID-19. Revenue generated by accommodation sector in Australia was near about 7.2 Billion dollar per year, which now has declined by more than 70%. These figures are shocking and show how dynamic can Hospitality or any other industry related to this can be affected by such problems. Lots and lots of people who are involved in this industry through jobs or are part of it are highly affected. As industry failed to give job to them which lead to high rate of redundancy. Leaving people job less however, this shows how everything is interlinked. (Coronavirus (COVID-19) – information for Australian travellers | Smartraveller, 2020)
F & B department which use to do good business with all international customers, tourists, travellers has now changed their way of doing business because they do not have customers to serve moreover, government new obligations on people has made restaurants, cafes or in house food dining to just do take-aways. Doing Take-away for all food businesses is not same, some had a way and found easy adapting this strategy some did not have a way just because they were highly dependent on the revenue generated per head while dining. These regulations shook some of the food businesses or department which lead them to closure or run out of business. Here it all comes about sustain themselves in this tough time. Australian government also appreciates, how industry has adapted the new trends and ways of doing business but still danger remains.
Some of the trends also got changed in a very funny manner, there use to be trend of working 5 days a week and then resting 2 days or enjoying weekends therefore, now trend has changed to 7 days of rest and working from home moreover, no more outings on weekends. These are actual life impacting trends on each person living in any county of the world.
Conclusion
At the end we can just see how everyone is putting their efforts to get free from this COVID-19. Government has been seen losing its restriction slowly and slowly, state by state which is a good sign that economy is recovering at last from this problem. No one is against government currently because that’s the only hope for people of this country. However, still we learn that how extreme can Hotel industry can survive with this issue floating on them. Also, now there are great opportunities which can be seen for businesses affected as everyone has brought to start point by COVID-19, and everyone must start again and build again what they lost.
