SRV799 – Built Environment Integrated Project
ASSIGNMENT 3 BRIEF
Requirements of Assignment 3
Assignment 3 – Submission:
• The assignment comprises 50% of the total marks available for this unit.
• You will receive an individual mark for this submission (not shared by other students).
• The submission is in two parts: a video of not more than 3 minutes, and a report of
not more than 20 A4 pages (PDF format). Submission is through the on-line
Assignment 3 individual drop-box.
• Both the video and the report are marked as a comprehensive unit – neither taking
precedent over the other.
• Submission for Assignment 3 is NO LATER than 3:00 pm, Friday 29th May 2020.
• Late assignments will be penalized as per the Deakin policy. (This is done
automatically and is out of the hands of the tutors, so please do not bother them
with explanations as to why you did not submit on time.)
• Marks for the assignment will not be released, as per the Deakin policy. Rather,
students will simply receive a final grade for the unit, reflecting the total of their
three assignment grades.
Assignment 3 – Requirements:
• The Assignment 3 assessment (video and report) is worth 50%. It should be a
complete development of one aspect of the total project, taken to a finished stage
where it could be handed over to a ‘real’ construction manager, to undertake and
complete the project. In this regard, the assessment of your work will simply be
whether and to what extent your submission could be used in the real world for this
very project.
• This leaves quite a bit of room for maneuvering – that is, what actually constitutes a
genuine working quality professional construction document, plan, budget, etc? You
have a few avenues available to you in resolving this. You could:
o Rely on an industry-standard precedent – which you would have to
demonstrate
o Develop your own rationale for such a document – but you would have to
argue for its validity
o Negotiate expectations with your tutor
• Beyond the format and content headings of your report/document submission (the
items it should contain), the more important consideration is how you derived your
data, drawings, schedules, costings, etc. You need to be complete in what you
report, but you also need to be accurate in that reporting. Again, there is no value in
sprouting dates and prices, if they have no basis in fact. That is, it’s not the numbers
as such, but how you got them, and how they mesh/synchronize/integrate, with
your colleagues’ work. Thus, where important, you need to make reference to what
and how other aspects of the project and the decisions made there are impacting
and constraining your work and recommendations.
• Finally, you will recall that the previous assignments asked you to report on four
aspects of the project:
▪
Construction detailing
▪
Project management
▪
Financial and budgeting
▪
Project risk appraisal
In Assignment 3 each group member is to take one aspect, only, each, and run with it to
completion. You will need to negotiate as to which group member gets which aspect of
the project to report on in Assignment 3. Hopefully, you will have specialized already,
and know what you will focus on. To be clear, for example, there cannot be two people
reporting on financials in Assignment 3, with nobody reporting on project management.
If in doubt, or if there are concerns, speak with your tutor.
