Scenario
You work as a report analyst for a large media organisation. The organisation wants to develop a series of
stories related to Family Violence in Australia. They have asked your group to source and analyse related data.
A variety of solutions have been designed to help users visually explore data sets and present findings.
Task
The task in this assignment is to use an existing visualization tool (SAP Business Objects Cloud) to and create a
series of visualisations which tell a story about a particular aspect of Family Violence in Australia. These
visualisations are to be used as the basis to create a video (5 minute) with commentary.
You should maintain a (digital) notebook that documents describes the process and reflections from the
process you undertook. The goal of this assignment to better understand the process of using visualisations to
perform exploratory and explanatory data analysis.
NOTE: We are interested in seeing the evolution of your thoughts and investigation. We are not interested in
just a final answer or step by step instructions! Please document your discovery progress (BLOG).

Story guidelines
How you will be assessed:
It is about using data to tell a story and not just presenting charts. You should identify an aspect of Family
Violence in Australia and try and provide insight to data rather than just quantifying it.
The extent of sourcing and preparation of data, the quality of visualisations, the story which is told based on
exploration and explanation. These details will be expressed through your digital documents to be written in a

You will also create a video of your story. For example see VU Collaborate
Submission
You will present your video to a panel of judges.
All documents will be submitted via VU Collaborate. Files should be submitted VU Collaborate assignment
dropbox by one student only and should identify group members
Grading
You will be graded on how well you addressed the following:
• 10%: Data sources and preparation
• 40%: Description of whether / how / why / when the story evolves, along with visualisations (blog)
• 50%: video of findings
