  • Leadership can be related to the components of leadership we looked at this semester.
  • You need to discuss this in relation to the concepts covered in the module readings
  • Discuss the importance of a transformational, authentic, emotionally intelligent leader
  • Visionary leaders identify the need for change
  • Effective leaders assess the workplace culture and its flexibility (an asset when there is a need to make changes) and puts in place strategies for building the capacity in the team for working through a change process. You could discuss the way in which these teams function
  • This involves team building and maintenance, respect, listening /consulting individuals and the team as a whole.
  • Think about Kotter’s 8 step process or any of the other change strategies identified during the semester (see the Stanley reading in module 2) to explain components of the identification of the need for the planning, implementation and evaluation of the change or performance improvement strategy.
  • What was the urgency (the reason) for this change?
  • How was the vision for the change or performance improvement strategy identified (who created the vision) and how was this shared with the team?
  • Why is a powerful guiding coalition important to the success of the change?
  • How can a leader manage resistance to change? Why does resistance occur?
  • You could use something from most of the readings we have covered in the modules, to explain the role of the leader in facilitating change.
  • Do you think that an autocratic leader would be able to motivate staff and build capacity in the team? Why…why not?
  • Look at the performance improvement strategy related to hand hygiene compliance in reading 3.6 and see if there is evidence of empowerment in the team (the staff ran the second performance improvement cycle and made changes from the previous attempt to improve compliance).
  • Look at how they sustain the change (in reading 3.6) and think about what Senge says are the qualities of a learning organisation (module 3).
  • You do not have to include every point here but you could, and if you do that, you will cover the requirements of the assignment and will easily be able to write 3000 words.
