1. Discuss/describe some specific properties or differences in some specific properties of
different conventional fuel, covering the following bullet points:
• Energy densities of different conventional fuels and their differences.
• Heat of combustion of different hydrocarbon fuels.
• Typical composition of natural gas.
2. Discuss the following aspects related to alternative fuels:
• The main role and characteristics of ethanol.
• List 3 main applications using hydrogen as an energy carrier.
• Discuss 3 key properties of hydrogen which affect its safety.
3. Discuss some fundamentals of combustion, covering the following bullet points:
• Flame classification based on (1) mixing between fuel and oxidizer, (2) characteristics
of the fluid motion; (3) physical state of the fuel and oxidiser; (4) time variation of
flame structure.
• Define chemical equilibrium; and clarify the differences and relation between
Equilibrium constants
