in the IB (international baccalaureate) the theory of knowledge (TOK) essay is based on topics created by the IB. the essay should be focused on knowledge issues such as what is knowledge,why and how do we know things. there are 8 areas of knowledge: mathematics, human sciences, natural sciences, arts, ethics, religion, history, indigineous knowledge. it is also important to link 2 areas of knowledges and discuss the claim with them. there are also 8 ways of knowing: emotion, faith, imagination, intuition, language, memory , reason and perception. you have to use at least 2 of these. for example in mathematics the theorems and equations can be used, which means it is collaborative task of mathematicians, but always means it is true in every possible way, so thats the tricky part. using mathematics in this essay as an area of knowledge would be nice. in the introduction talk about the knowledge what is it and how it is produced.
