ACCG101 Accounting and
Governance
Session 2, 2019
Individual Business Report (10%)
Due: 3pm on Thursday, 10 Oct 2019 (Week 9)
Submission Instructions:
• Your individual assignment must be submitted to Turnitin via iLearn 3pm on
Thursday, 10 Oct 2019 (Week 9).
• No extension will be granted. There will be a deduction of 10% of the total available
marks made from the total awarded marks for each 24-hour period or part thereof that
the submission is late (for example, 25 hours late in submission – 20% penalty). This
penalty does not apply for cases in which an application for Special Consideration is
submitted within a reasonable time frame and approved.
Assignment Questions:
Assume that you are preparing Galore Ltd’s yearly allowance for doubtful debts based on 2%
of net credit sales, which will potentially result in 10% growth rate. The managing director, Ms
Sharon Shady (Sharon), suggested you to increase the allowance for doubtful debts to 4% in
order to achieve a 5% growth rate. Sharon said to you that: “we do not want our shareholders
to expect our company to sustain a 10% growth every year rather, a 5% growth rate is more
sustainable for our company.”
You are required to conduct research (i. e. reviewing relevant accounting standards and policies
as well as academic and professional journals) and write a business report by addressing the
below questions.
Please note:
The total marks of this assignment are 50 (i. e. 10 marks for Part A, 20 marks for Part B,
10 marks for organization and clarity, and 10 marks for grammar, mechanics, formatting
and referencing), then your marks will be converted to 10% towards your overall
assessment. Refer to the detailed marking rubric on page 3.

Assignment Requirements:
a) Structure
The report must contain the following (in this order):
• Report cover page (You can design your own cover page)
• Introduction
• Body which consists of your responses to the assignment questions
• Conclusion
• Reference list
b) Word limit
The assignment should be typed (in Microsoft Word, Times New Roman, 12 font, 1.5 line
spacing). The word limit is 800 excluding references. However, it can be 10% over/under the
word limit without incurring a penalty. Please note that only include introduction, body and
conclusion in the word count.
c) Referencing
It is extremely important that you are familiar with the university policy on plagiarism that is
included in the unit guide. You must re-write material in your own words and not just copy and
paste from the internet or any other resources. You must properly reference all material in the
main text and provide a reference list at the end of the assignment. It is recommended that you
use the Harvard or APA referencing style.
d) Submission to Turnitin
Your individual assignment must be submitted to Turnitin via iLearn 3pm on Thursday, 10
Oct 2019 (Week 9).
Turnitin is an internet database that identifies work containing unoriginal material. Your
assignment will be scanned using the Turnitin software and if you have copied material from
the internet or other sources improperly, you will be penalised. The scanning will also tell us
if you have copied from another student. Staff in the unit will perform a check on the similarity
of your report to others. Student who plagiarizes in any form will receive ZERO mark for the
individual assignment and may be reported to authorities for misconduct.
