Provide a personal philosophy on Early Education and Care.

Early childhood is the period that observes the enormous development and the growth of an individual. The early years of the development are thus very much critical for the development of firm foundation in case of knowledge, cognitive and motor development as well as in case of social, regulatory and moral development Black et al. 2017. The individuals engaged in the early childhood care and education workforce plays the most essential role towards the provision of these experiences in the early years. I have been working in this field for the past four years and during that time I have developed some of my personal values and beliefs in regards to the early childhood profession as an educator.

I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating environment in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically and socially. It is my desire as an educator to help children meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. Learning Environments are one of the eight key practices contained in the Early Years Learning Framework EYLF; Physical Environment is one of the seven quality areas in the National Quality Standard As an educator, I aim to stimulate the thirst for curiosity and knowledge. Play-based learning is essential because it is through play that a child questions, discovers, pretends, invents, tests hypotheses, learns by mistakes, and determines who he/she is. Currently, I see a continuous feedback loop that describes the learning process as both child and educator respond to each other.

  1. It is the educator who sets up the environment with age- appropriate props and play areas to offer opportunities for discovery.
  2. It is the child who takes interest in certain components within this setting. The child expresses preferences for somethings
  3. The educator responds to the child by incorporating their interest within this play-based curriculum. The educator can stimulate questions from the child and support their learning with additional concepts that naturally develop.
  4. Again, the child responds by interacting with the environment and shows the observing educator where additional learning opportunities are required.

Children have a right to be active participants and decision makers in their learning therefore my role as an educator is to ensure I make the best of opportunities for their learning by creating an aesthetically pleasing environment with spaces that motivate and stimulate investigation and exploration resulting in a sense of security and wellbeing. Care is an important attribute to the wellbeing of a child. As an educator working in the early childhood sector I hold developing relationships with the children and their families very close to my heart.

“To support children’s learning, it is essential that educators attend to children’s wellbeing by providing warm, trusting relationships, predictable and safe environments, affirmation and respect for all aspects of their physical, emotional, social, cognitive, linguistic, creative and spiritual being”. The Early Learning Framework for Australia, 2017, p.30. I believe developing these relationships is vital when creating a curriculum as acknowledging each child’s cultural and social identity allows me to build on their sense of wellbeing and willingness to engage learning. Developing a curriculum around the children’s interests fosters intrinsic motivation and stimulates the passion to learn.

I strongly believe as part of our ethical responsibility that professional educators need to be consistently and actively contributing and critically reflecting upon their morals of within the early childhood education. This is underpinned by the Code of Ethics Early Childhood Australia, 2016.

“The protection and wellbeing of children is paramount, and therefore speaking out or taking action in the presence of unethical practice is an essential professional responsibility” Code of Ethics Early Childhood Australia, 2016, p.3. Such morals I value, reflected within the Code of Ethics 2016 include respect, empathy, sensitivity, health and safety, anti-biased approach, diversity, confidentiality, multicultural approach, honesty, equality, integrity, justice, advocacy, courage, inclusiveness, social responsiveness, cultural responsiveness, children learning through their rights to play, adhering to policies law and conduct, continuous research including documentation and investigation of children’s learning and knowledge base of early childhood, collaborating with families, and networking with community services.

One of my hopes as an educator is to in-still a love of learning within my centre, as I share my own passion for learning with them. I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working with children. I am such a person and will always strive to be the best educator that I can be.

Task 2

Curriculum Program Formats.

The differences in the approach to teaching are dependent on the functioning of the early childhood educators and the manner in which they evaluate the needs of the children. The educating method is developed through the study of different resources and the study of the philosophical contexts that fits into the systems of educating the children more efficiently.
