Part 1 – Design & Preparation for Job Analysis Interview

  • In this week, you are supposed to schedule and prepare for the Job Analysis Interview with your interviewee. Before actually conducting the interview, discuss:
    • What are some interesting and unique questions that are not listed in those online materials, but you plan to ask your interviewee?
    • Reply to others’ posts by asking questions and/or asking for help from your team members, and help others as much as you can.
  • The purpose of this week’s discussion is to make all of you work together and come up with as many interview questions as possible. In other words, you will help each other (and yourself) to have a full list of all questions and you can go on the interview FULLY-PREPARED next week.
  • Your initial job analysis interview design AND materials of job analysis interviews (some typical questions asked, any tips to polish the interview, and any other information you can find online). Give a general description of the interviewee as well. Here’s a checklist – answer ALL questions in your post(s)!!!
    • Who is the job incumbent that you are interviewing (e.g., gender, name or alias, age)?
    • What is the job he/she is holding? How long has he/she been in the job (needs to be working in this position for at least 6 months)?
    • Give a general description of the organization (e.g., industry, size, location) as well. You can use an alias for the name of the organization or just call it XYZ Company.
    • How do you plan to conduct the interview (in-person or video call)?
    • What are the questions that you will be asking? The initial list of job interview questions does not have to be perfect – after all, the purpose of this discussion forum is to help you perfect that list! Before you post, find out what are some typical questions that are asked in a job analysis interview. Find those questions (you can find a lot of these online) and share them with the team about what you found.
    • What are some useful materials about job analysis interviews that you find online? Share them with the group and make sure you read what others shared as well! You could even comment on their shared materials and let people know your thoughts (Are they useful? If yes, what piece do you find most useful to you? If not, what information would you like to see?)
    • How long do you think the interview will last?

**REMINDER: After you complete reading all the materials from this week (textbook and PowerPoint slides), you will know that the key to job analysis is to determine the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other requirements (KSAOs) and tasks, duties, and responsibilities (TDRs) of a job. Therefore, in your interview, you must design questions that can allow you to get as much as information you need to determine what are the KSAOs and TDRs of the job you are analyzing.
