RUBRIC FOR THE FINAL EXAM IN BUSINESS ORGANISATIONS
The following rubric will be used to assess the hypothetical/problem questions in the exam. There are 2 such questions in the exam and each is worth 20 marks.
| Issue 20 % The relevant issues of law are clearly identified including the legal problem(s) that need to be addressed |
Unsatisfactory The relevant area of law is not identified. 0 marks |
Minimal The area of law is correctly identified but the statement does not clearly describe the legal problem(s) that need to be addressed. 1 marks |
Effective The area of law and the legal problem(s) to be addressed are identified but the description of the problem(s) are not clear or are incomplete. 1.5 – 3 marks |
Outstanding The area of law and the legal problem(s) to be addressed are identified and clearly and completely described 4 marks |
| Rules 30 % The Rules section identifies the relevant legal principles and their source of authority. Source of authority may be an Act of Parliament, case law, guidelines or other form of regulation. |
Unsatisfactory No relevant legal principles have been identified. 0 marks |
Minimal Some identification of relevant legal principles but the correct source of authority (Section of Act or relevant case) has not been cited. 1.5 marks |
Effective All or most of the relevant legal principles and their correct source of authority has been cited but the explanation of the principles is not clear or is incomplete. 3.0 -4.5 marks |
Outstanding All relevant legal principles are clearly explained and their correct source of authority is given. 5-6 marks |
| Application/Analysis 40 % The Application section considers each legal principle identified in the Rules section and explains its relevance to the facts and how it can be applied or distinguished to support logical arguments about how the Issue(s) will be resolved |
Unsatisfactory The discussion of the facts does not refer to any relevant legal principles. 0 marks |
Minimal The discussion considers some of the relevant legal principles but does not apply those principles to the key facts to support logical arguments about how the Issue(s) will be resolved. 1-2 marks |
Effective The discussion considers the application of most of the relevant legal principles to the key facts but the arguments are not clear or are incomplete. 4-6 marks |
Outstanding The discussion is a clear and comprehensive analysis of the relevant legal principles and their application to the facts to support logical arguments about how the issue can be resolved 8 marks |
| Conclusion 10 % The Conclusion is stated and provides an overview of how the arguments in the Application section address the Issue(s). |

Minimal The Conclusion is supported by some of the arguments but does not explain how they address the Issue(s). 0.5 marks |
Effective The Conclusion is supported by most of the arguments but the explanation of how those arguments address the Issue(s) is not clear or is incomplete 1-1.5 mark |
